Collagen Isn’t Just a Supplement-It’s a Lifestyle
JUNE 2026
Collagen is the scaffolding that keeps skin firm, smooth, and resilient. And here in Scottsdale, where our skin faces an intensity of sun and heat most people don't contend with, we lose it faster than we think. The good news? We can do something about it.
I talk about collagen with almost every person who sits in the chair. It's not a buzzword — it's the actual structural protein that determines how your skin looks and feels as the decades pass. When collagen is abundant, skin is plump, firm, and bounces back. When it depletes, we see fine lines deepen, skin thin, and that youthful "spring" disappear.
The decline begins earlier than most people realize — around age 20 — and accelerates with sun exposure, stress, poor sleep, and hormonal shifts. The Arizona sun, as beautiful as it is, is one of the biggest drivers of collagen breakdown. UV radiation is the number one external cause of premature collagen loss. That means if you're living here and not actively supporting your collagen, your skin is fighting an uphill battle.
THE COLLAGEN TIMELINE
What's happening inside your skin
IN YOUR 20’s -1%/yr
Collagen production peaks and begins a slow decline. Sun damage starts accumulating — even if you can't see it yet.
IN YOUR 30S–40S−2%/yr
Skin begins to visibly thin and lose elasticity. Fine lines around the eyes and mouth become more pronounced.
MENOPAUSE +−30%
Estrogen plays a critical role in collagen synthesis. Its decline accelerates collagen loss significantly in a short window.
The encouraging truth is that collagen synthesis can be stimulated — both through targeted in-office treatments and through what you feed your body every day. This is exactly where the Skin 180° philosophy lives: inside-out skin health that works on every level.
"The best anti-aging strategy isn't reactive — it's consistent, layered care that works with your skin's own biology to rebuild what time takes away."

Three ways we rebuild collagen at Skin 180°
Each of the treatments below works through a different mechanism to stimulate your skin's own collagen production. When layered thoughtfully over time, they create compounding results that no single treatment — or skincare product — can achieve alone.
CoolPeel CO₂ Laser Resurfacing
CoolPeel is one of the most powerful collagen-induction tools we have. By delivering controlled ablative energy to the skin's surface, it triggers the wound-healing cascade — your body's natural response that floods the area with fresh collagen and elastin. The result is visibly tighter, smoother, more luminous skin as healing progresses over the following weeks. Because CoolPeel uses ultra-short pulse technology, we get the resurfacing benefit with significantly less downtime than traditional CO₂ lasers. For collagen support, we often recommend a series of treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions.

Microneedling with PRF
Microneedling creates thousands of micro-channels in the skin that signal the body to produce new collagen — and when we add PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin), we take it a step further. PRF is derived from your own blood, spun down to concentrate your platelets and growth factors. When applied during microneedling, these growth factors penetrate deep and accelerate the collagen-building process naturally. PRF is particularly effective for skin laxity, acne scarring, and that overall "deflated" quality that can develop with age. I love this treatment because it harnesses your body's own healing intelligence — no synthetics, no fillers, just your biology working at its best.

HydraFacial MD
Think of HydraFacial as the foundation that makes everything else work better. Monthly HydraFacial treatments keep the skin clear, hydrated, and receptive — which means your collagen-stimulating treatments penetrate more effectively and your results last longer. The HydraFacial's Vortex-Fusion technology infuses the skin with hyaluronic acid, peptides, and antioxidants that directly support the skin's structural environment. Over time, consistent HydraFacial treatments improve barrier function, reduce inflammation, and create the kind of healthy skin baseline that allows collagen to thrive. It's the treatment I recommend to every single client, every month, regardless of their other concerns.

A note on timing: June is actually an ideal month to start or restart a collagen-support treatment plan. Summer schedules often slow down, and committing to a consistent series now means you'll be seeing compounding results by fall — just in time for the season when people tend to be most social.
RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Golden Turmeric Bone Broth Soup
Collagen-rich, deeply nourishing, and built around the most powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients on the planet.
Bone broth is one of the most collagen-dense foods you can eat. It contains glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline — the three amino acids your body assembles into collagen. Combined with turmeric's curcumin (a potent inflammation fighter), ginger, and a rainbow of vegetables, this soup is essentially a collagen-support protocol in a bowl. I make a big pot of this on Sundays and sip from it all week.
INGREDIENTS
6 cups quality bone broth Collagen aminos
1 tbsp fresh turmeric, grated Anti-inflammatory
1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated Circulation
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups shiitake mushrooms, sliced Zinc + Selenium
2 cups baby spinach Vitamin C
1 cup carrots, thinly sliced Beta-carotene
1 cup zucchini, diced
1 lemon, juiced Vitamin C
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp black pepper (activates curcumin)
pinch sea salt, to taste
optional soft-boiled egg or shredded chicken
HOW TO MAKE IT
1 Build your base.
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add garlic, grated turmeric, and ginger. Sauté for 2–3 minutes until fragrant — your kitchen will smell incredible.
2 Add the vegetables.
Add carrots and mushrooms and cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften.
3 Pour in the broth.
Add bone broth and bring to a gentle simmer. Season with black pepper and sea salt. Let simmer for 10–12 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
4 Finish with greens.
Add zucchini and spinach in the last 3 minutes — just long enough to wilt the spinach without losing its nutrients. Squeeze in fresh lemon juice right before serving.
5 Serve & garnish.
Ladle into bowls and top with a soft-boiled egg or pulled chicken if desired. A drizzle of good olive oil and a pinch of flaky salt finishes it beautifully.
The vitamin C in spinach and lemon is essential — your body cannot synthesize collagen without it. It acts as a cofactor in the enzyme reactions that build collagen chains. So this soup is doing double duty: delivering collagen-building amino acids from the broth while providing the nutrients needed to assemble them.
