The Real Secret to Slowing Skin Aging (Not a Serum)

APRIL 2026  •  SUN PROTECTION

What most people get wrong — and how to protect your skin this Arizona spring.

Here in Scottsdale, our sun is no joke — and April marks the start of serious UV exposure season. The single most impactful thing you can do for your skin right now takes just 30 seconds each morning. It’s SPF. Let’s talk about how to use it right.

SKIN CARE TIP

Mineral vs Chemical Sunscreen — What’s the Difference?

Mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) sit on top of skin and physically reflect UV rays. Chemical formulas absorb UV and convert it to heat. Neither is “bad” — but if you have sensitive skin, rosacea, or pigmentation concerns, mineral is usually the smarter choice. The most important factor? A formula you’ll actually wear every single day.

Reapply every two hours outdoors — and yes, Arizona sun through a car window absolutely counts. UV rays don’t take days off.

During our Inside Out Beauty Consult, we look at UV exposure, nutrition, stress, and sleep as part of your complete skin health picture — not just your topical routine.

NUTRITION FOR SKIN

Eat Your Sunscreen — The Lycopene Connection

At Skin180°, beautiful skin starts from the inside. Research shows lycopene — a powerful antioxidant in red and pink foods — helps neutralize UV-related free radical damage at the cellular level. Think of it as your internal defense layer.

Top sources: cooked tomatoes (heat makes lycopene more bioavailable), watermelon, pink grapefruit, and guava. Aim to include at least one daily through the warmer months and pair with a healthy fat like olive oil to boost absorption.

Want a personalized nutrition plan for your skin? OurInside Out Beauty Consultdives deep into the diet, supplements, and lifestyle factors that directly impact your complexion.
